I learned of AIEP upon the recommendation of my sister, after she enrolled her sons to English classes for kids.  That time, I was looking for a quick course for IELTS review since I had decided to take the exams the following month.  I got myself enlisted for a private 10-session/10-hour program, which also includes free group sessions of my liking for a limited period.  I believe this has been one of the best decisions I’ve made to date.

For one, teacher Liz gave me comprehensive sample exams and literature relevant to IELTS.  Given the limited time I had, Liz would give me mock exams every meeting.  She would assess and discuss the results of it on the same day.  One time, I got an 8.5 and 8.0 in reading and listening, respectively.  From then on, she believed that I would pass the test with flying colors and that was a real confidence booster.

Secondly, she explained the ins and outs of the test and gave me pointers on how to ace it.  I particularly was having difficulty on the writing part of the test due to time constraints (Part 1 – 20mins, Part 2- 40mins).  She discussed how to budget the time and the main focus of the essay using the simple “Five Elements” framework.  These pointers helped me a lot in achieving a 7.0 grade on my actual writing test.

Thirdly, I’ve benefited a lot from the group sessions I attended especially on my speaking assessment. In a classroom setting, specialists like Liz would give students topics to discuss in a form of a debate, formal presentation, role play or even as an informal round table discussion.  This, in addition to my private class with Liz, further enhanced my ability as an English speaker which is also tested in IELTS.

My AIEP experience is amazing and has resulted me getting an overall band score of 8.0 in my IELTS.  Not only that, I’ve gained a lot of friends, from both students and teachers.  I may not have attended other English schools, but I still believe AIEP is one of the best, if not the best, English schools in the country.  And to all my teachers in AIEP QC – Chris, Jay, Reggie and most specially, LIZ – THANK YOU!
